So, after waiting the mandatory 10 days, I finally have my new
Beretta 92FS. And when I say 10 day, I mean 10 days to the minute. I bought the pistol at 1:43pm on Saturday, the 16th, and I'll be damned if they didn't make me wait until exactly 1:43pm on the 26th before letting me walk out of the store with it. Kind of silly, but I guess 10 days has to mean 10 days.
So, knowing this in advance, and figuring that there would be some final paperwork to finish up, I arrived at the store about 1:15. Sure enough, I had to fill out a few more forms. And in addition, I had to go through a little hands-on safety test to ensure I actually understood how to load an unload the weapon. Pretty good idea, if you ask me. Last thing I need is some Barney Gun Owner buying a weapon he has no idea how to safely handle. With my luck, he'd be the buy the put me next to at my next outing to the range.
Anyway, I finally finished, passed my test (which mostly involved not killing the clerk), and waited the extra 10 minutes that were left so as not to commit a felony before even leaving the store. But when I finally got to my car, new weapon in hand, I realized something. While picking up the pistol, not once did anyone in the store ask to see my ID. Now, of course, they already had it on file from when I originally purchased the weapon. But did they check that during delivery? If they did, I missed it.
So apparently if you ever find a gun receipt lying around, you can just walk in and claim the weapon for yourself. Good thing they make you wait 10 days. That way, the clerk won't really remember the original purchaser, and off you go with you new firearm.
