Paying the price for being nice

The Haiku explained.

So, more to come on this, but we recently decided that as my Grandmother enters hospice care, she is going to move in with me, since I live in the house she occupied for some 30 years.  We are hoping that familiar surroundings will help her deal with her growing dementia, etc. In order to be more involved, I decided that I should try and find work closer to home, as my commute is regularly an hour or so.

Anyway, in an effort to try to be nice, and to give my employer a heads up, I let my boss know last week that I was going to start looking for new work. I’ve only been here a few months, and we’re in the middle of a pretty big project, and I didn’t want to just quit in a few weeks and leave them hanging. I thought this would be something that would be appreciated, since it would give them time to find a new, qualified lead, etc.

Well, no such luck. Monday, my boss basically said, "well, since you are not going to be here long term to finish this project, you might as well just leave this Friday." Great. Thanks.

The lesson?  Never again.
